I originally wrote this article in 2006 as “Creating Sacred Space.” Since that time, my understanding of creating and setting energy space has broadened and deepened. At the time of the original writing, I thought creating sacred space was a nice idea. Now, I deeply understand that setting or creating energy space with as much consciousness is one of the most important things we can do — it sets the tone for the day, or for a good night’s sleep, or for meditation, energy work or intuitive work. This one piece is critical to creating good, foundational consciousness or energy work of any kind. It’s not an option. It’s essential.
Everything within us and surrounding us is energy. It’s that pure, that simple. The physical reality we live in is actually a result of the deeper, pure energies resonating in the quantum field. So, it would make sense that we can much better create our lives by being conscious of the deeper energy rhythms occurring within and around us. Furthermore, it makes profound sense that conscious acts in creating the quality of these energy fields in and around us would more likely help us than hinder us. That’s what this article is about — the basics in creating sound, healthy and constructive energy space. Through this, we create a better quality of life, a better space to live in.
Creating sacred energy space comes from understanding some simple, yet powerful tools: sound, intent, centering, grounding, breathing, clearing, and creating a circle/spherical boundary of energy. I’ve listed each in the order I like to use them, but you may find another order more beneficial to yourself.
Sound: I like to begin this series of practices by using sound. You don’t have to, but I find it helpful. I like to say, “Vibration is the root of all creation.” (Sound is vibration is resonance. All “being-ness” occurs at root levels of light resonating. You want to change your life? Change the vibrations you reside in and within.) So, we begin with setting this frequency using anything from voice, to hand clap, to Tibetan Bowls, to ringing tuning forks, to bells, to running water, to . . . ? Whatever sound makes you feel better, feel more peaceful, more alive, more connected. This is what you use. Begin by creating this sound and then use words, preferably out loud (as they are more powerful) to create your intent.
Intent: We’ll get to specific words in just a moment, but I want to mention this. Thoughts are things. Every thought you have, entertain and create is a force of moving energy—resonance. Everything in the universe resonates with energy, everything. When you resonate with a certain thought or emotion, you are in the act of drawing that resonance to you and thus creating the events that come into your life. If you want to change your life and/or change the space around you, change your intent, change your resonance.
So, coming into space setting with the clear intent of peace, calm, grounding, clearing, etc, will begin to bring you this. Be conscious of the energies you are carrying into this space, being clear to let go of fear stress, anxiety, anger, ect. Through this practice, they will let go. Pay attention to the difference of the energies. The former resonates in higher, lighter frequencies. The latter resonates in lower, darker frequencies.
So, once you’ve created your sound, begin to speak words out loud (out loud is so much more powerful than in the mind) for setting space. These are the words I like to use (you can reframe them to suit your needs). “I call in highest light, wholest love, deepest knowing, highest intent for myself, the universe and all those I’m connected to. I also call in my highest guides, gods, guards, entities, angels, energies, ascended masters, elementals and divine E.T.’s to help me, guide me and protect me.” And then I might request specific help for meditation or a calm day or help with a certain issue or situation. (We’ll cover closing and gratitude at the end, but it’s worth mention here that gratitude IS a large part of this practice.) Design this to suit your personal needs.
If you’ll notice, I’m very selective in the language I use. Always go for the best, the highest. If you’ll notice here, I did not say “Whatever needs to come in can come in.” Through experience I’ve learned that if you say these words, the “whatever” of the universe most certainly will come in. The whole idea is to clean things up, and not let in energetic riff raff. Be clear on what and who you want there. This is why I use specific wording. It programs the energies in and around you and clarifies the resonances. You can also tag on, “All else go, go in the light of God, go in love.” Directing any other energies and/or entities that it’s time to leave. AND you can also call in your specific favorites like Buddha, Kwan Yin, Jesus, Arch Angel Michael and so forth. Each can help with specifics.
Once the sound, words and intent are rolling, then we move into the core of the practice — centering, grounding and breathing.
Centering: Whenever I think of centering, it is akin to calling all parts of myself home. We scatter ourselves to the winds with our busy busy lives and forget that we are ineffective when we are fragmented. How can you accomplish anything and/or focus if your heart is in one place, your mind in another, and the rest of you scattered around the world? Come home to yourself.
Begin by choosing whatever physical space you want to be in. Then, close your eyes and breathe. Breathe in, breathe out, long, deep, beautiful breaths. Sometimes, moving your hands and arms in motion to this help. Breath is life. As you let your breaths out, allow yourself and feel yourself relax muscle by muscle. When you get to a point, and you’ll know when, it’s time to consciously call/ask for all parts of yourself to come home by saying, “I call all parts of myself home.” Feel yourself returning to you (this is a very simple soul retrieval).
As you do this, you’ll begin to feel an energetic/soulful center inside yourself that connects more and more deeply the more you practice. This is your spiritual home while you are on the planet. This is your spiritual center. Being in this place is your center and your centering.
Grounding: Sometimes we forget that we’re much more than physical beings. We’re spiritual beings having a human experience. Sometimes, we forget that it’s as and more important for our spiritual or energetic selves to be rooted in our physical bodies. Through the wear and tear of life, the mis-haps and the traumas, we gradually leave our bodies so that we don’t have to feel pain. One of the most essential practices today to be within this consciousness evolution is to be as present as possible within our bodies.
So, when we ground, we are grounding in both the energetic realm, as well as the terrestrial, physical plane. There are many various techniques you can use to ground — none being wrong or right. The most important is what works for you. My favorite always involves “running light.” (Visualizing and feeling streams of light running through my body). Here is a basic visualization to use: Standing or sitting, concentrate on the energy running up and down through your spine. You can also become aware of a white light ball in your center. Or you can become aware of your spinning chakras (energy centers). As you become aware, begin to shift into pure white light, this space or your entire being. Then, send a thick cord of pure white light out the base of your spine, out the bottom of your feet, deep into the Earth and allow this cord to reach the center of the Earth. Here, let the white light expand out into roots and anchor yourself there. This anchors you to the terrestrial plane. Then, bring a line of that white light all the way back up to you. Then, as the energy moves through you, send a thick white light cord out of you crown (the top of your head), far up into the atmosphere. Send this white light cord up and up into the celestial plane, past the first energy grid, past the second and then to the third energy grid which is the Unity Consciousness Grid. The Unity Consciousness grid is the energy grid supporting our current consciousness movement. Again, send out light roots and secure your energy. Bring an energy line back down from this, back down through your crown and into your being, into your center. This anchors you in the celestial plane. Now you are anchored above and below, much more secure and present.
Clearing: Since the universe is filled with complex, multi-dimensional, diverse resonances, we are always living in this resonance soup. A lot of resonances are simply garbage, mucking up the clarity. And depending on the mood you are in during the day, you may be attracting more garbage energy than you realize. Clearing will elevate your immediate surrounding space so that you can feel and think more clearly—allowing through the more beautiful and meaningful resonances to shine. (These is clearing yourself and clearing space).
Everything mentioned so far is already a clearing agent — the intent, the light, the sound, the centering. Here are just a few more tools and insights for clearing.
When you use intent for clearing you are using yourself as a tool. In clearing with yourself, understand that you have two energy bodies—your physical body and your energy body. These two bodies are infused and interlaced through one another, affecting one another. All energies you carry in your energy body, eventually manifest themselves through your physical body. (This is why all disease is a result of repeated energetic patterns manifesting themselves out through the body). So, when you clear with intent, understand you are clearing your own energetic field, as well as the field around you. The visualization of the white light running through you is one of the best clearing-with-intent tools I’ve found.
Burning incense is also another way to help clear a space of unwanted energies. My favorites are sage and/or dragon’s blood. Always opt for your local sage if you can. It’s best to have someone show you how to use it. You can smudge yourself and a space with sage to purify the area. It’s much more powerful if you use intent, call in instructions, call in guidance and help and visualize white light. With incense, the same instructions also pertain AND be sure to use the highest quality incense possible. Who and how the incense is manufactured makes a difference in your success of its use. Incense has its own resonance, and if the incense is unclear, it will attract those energies. My favorite source for incense is Wildberry Incense listed on the resources page.
Gratitude: Remember to close out any practice like this with words of deep thanks and gratitude. I like to put my hands together over my heart and do a short honor bow. Whatever helps you convey the energies and feelings of thanks and honor are what work best here.
The Space: After using all of the previous steps (in practice), you should gradually begin to feel a natural spherical space surround you, your person. You should also begin to feel a significant energy shift in the space you’re working with (whether at home or work or elsewhere). As you practice these steps, you won’t need to spend as long with them and it will become more defined and clearer to you. As this comes into clearer view, make sure to begin to visualize the white light bubble you’re traveling within. Make sure this bubble is at least as wide as your outstretched arms. If you are in challenging environments, you can even put energy shields on the bubble, picturing anything negative just bouncing off this space.
Congratulations, you are on the road and practice to consciously creating your sacred space—the creative space of the six directions: up, down, north, south, east and west. You can do this anytime, anywhere. Though this all seems long and involved, after some practice, you will find it takes only a matter of minutes. These are also valuable techniques to use while traveling, especially in and around your vehicle. It helps shield from potential accidents.
A few last thoughts: Remember, we live on a planet of free will. What this means is that any kinds of helpful energies or entities on the other side really can’t help us out unless we ASK for their help; otherwise, it would be considered interference. So, be sure on a daily basis to ASK for what you need and give THANKS with the asking.
Also, become aware of the physical items you own and how they affect/resonate in your sacred space. You may find that you have energetically outgrown items in your life and they actually impede your space with negative or low resonating energies. Have the courage to let go of them, and then watch how items with higher resonances begin to flow in. Become conscious of placing items of great meaning into your sacred space and experience how they resonate with you and the space around you.

Thanks
